Train Simulator: Amtrak P30CH Loco Add-On

This expansion for Train Simulator introduces the Amtrak P30CH locomotive, a significant piece of American passenger rail history. Developed by General Electric, the "Pooch" was one of the first locomotives to utilize head-end power (HEP) for passenger services.

Locomotive Characteristics

The P30CH features specific technical and functional elements for simulated operation:

• Highly detailed model of the GE P30CH locomotive in Amtrak livery.
• Custom cab interior with functional controls and gauges.
• Advanced diesel-electric engine sounds and physics.
• Standard and Career scenarios set on compatible American routes.
• Quick Drive compatibility for immediate use on any installed route.

Included Content

The add-on provides the following components to the simulation library:

• Amtrak P30CH locomotive in multiple phases.
• Amfleet I passenger cars including Coach and Café variants.
• Heritage Fleet baggage car.
• A selection of Career scenarios for the Northeast Corridor or Miami – West Palm Beach routes.

Gameplay Mechanics

Operating the P30CH involves managing power systems and adhering to strict passenger schedules. Users must monitor speed limits, signals, and braking distances while handling the weight of full passenger consists. The Head-End Power system management is a core mechanical focus, reflecting the transition from steam heat to electric systems in the 1970s.
